Pontiac Wagon Train Rules

  1. No Out Rider shall be under the age of 14 years on the 1st day of attendance at the Wagon Train
  2. No Rider or Teamster shall be permitted to participate with out proof of current and proper insurance coverage on the 1st day of attendance at the Wagon Train. A photocopy of your insurance document is to be left with the committee.
  3. All participants shall respect the authority of the Safety officers during the Wagon Train. Failure to do so shall result in the offending participants being removed from the days ride and/or the Wagon Train
  4. All participants shall be checked for safety issues with wagons, harness, riding tack and horse health. Any concerns must be dealt with prior to participating in the days ride. All efforts will be made by the Committee to assist in rectifying any issues.
  5. Helmets are not compulsory but the Wagon Train strongly suggests that safety helmets be worn for your own protection. Anyone riding between the ages of 14-18 in particular. The responsibility of riding without is entirely that of the individual.
  6. All participants must respect the properties used by the Wagon Train at the base camp and during each days ride.
  7. All participants with horses must clean their corral and trailer areas each morning. Manure must be taken to dump site.
  8. A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18 years of age. Children should be in the presence of the guardian while on the trail.
  9. NO PETS ALLOWED at the campsite or on the trail
  10. No Studs or Foals allowed
  11. No campfires allowed. Propane barbecues are allowed
  12. Saddle horses that have tendencies to kick must a red warning ribbon in their tail
  13. Outriders will be assigned to a designated wagon if not traveling with one. All riders will ride in an orderly fashion with the wagon. You are asked to ride without crowding those you are riding with. Riders will remain inside the wagon widths and on the trails and roads
  14. Horses must be under control at all times. At base camp they must be tied or penned securely. Electric fences must be self-powered. NO hydro is supplied
  15. Horses are not allowed to drink directly from the water source
  16. All wagons and harnesses must be in safe and good condition. Breechings are required. The Pontiac Wagon Train recommends that all wagons have brakes. The Security committee will inspect all wagons, harness and riding equipment. Unsafe issues will need to be resolved prior to the days ride. Failure to correct the problem will result in the attendee being asked to remain at base camp
  17. Wagons should be no wider than axle width, and have wooden or rubber tires
  18. All wagons must display a standard slow moving vehicle sign on the rear of the wagon, as per the law.
  19. No alcohol use during the daily trail ride.
  20. Horse owners must be present at the campsite overnight. No horses are to be left unattended. If arrangements are made for your horses to be monitored by someone else it must be someone in an adjoining campsite/corral.

Not complying with any of the above rules could result in being asked to leave the wagon train!
